This mixed-use scheme by AHMM is located at 242 Marylebone Road in LB Westminster and extends and refurbishes the original nine storey Woolworth House, designed by Richard Seifert.
Renamed Metropolis, the redevelopment includes a seven storey stepped extension with planted terraces on every level which create over 6,000 sq ft of new landscaped gardens designed by BBUK. In addition, the existing roof plant enclosures were removed and consolidated, providing space for two new rooftop office gardens on levels five and eight. We restored the marble staircase of the original entrance and introcuced new planting to the formerly barren forecourt. BBUK also specified the interior planting in the atrium.
The environmentally responsible development had a very low embodied carbon rating and uses 100% renewable energy, achieving a BREEAM rating of Outstanding.
