Hackney Council launched an initiative to build more than 400 new homes on empty or underused Council-owned sites across the borough and in 2017 BBUK were part of the winning bid led by Mikhail Riches to redevelop two of their infill housing sites at Wimbourne and Buckland Street.

The Buckland Street development features 54 homes (62% of which are affordable) and a ground floor commercial unit contained within a trio of six storey villa blocks whose scalloped facade has been designed to conserve existing pollarded plane trees while also providing generous balcony space. The villas sit within gardens each with a slightly different landscape character, the focus being to improve currently unused green spaces for use by the wider community. The development also includes the creation of a new children’s play area, and the refurbishment and relocation of the existing MUGA, and general landscaping improvements.
