The Basildon development is a community led environmentally conscious scheme for around 700 homes covering approximately 51 hectares located on a grey belt site to the west of Bowers Gifford in Essex.
The proposals look to maximise the landscape with interconnected green corridors throughout to establish a nature focused community experience. As many existing trees and hedgerows as possible will be retained, and the plot will also include a new woodland as part of the site wide biodiversity improvements. The design includes a range of outdoors spaces which aim to connect people, ranging from private/semi-private gardens, shared communal spaces, and larger village greens. Play will be integrated throughout, with well-overlooked spaces supporting high quality play spaces for children of all ages. Sustainable forms of transport will also be prioritised over vehicles, making the public realm people led.
