1 Victoria Street

LONDON - POST PLANNING

BBUK are working with AHMM on their scheme at 1 Victoria Street to overhaul and extend the 1960s office that was once home to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.  This significant 1960’s office building sits in a prominent location, overlooking Westminster Abbey and its World Heritage Site setting, and was granted planning approval from Westminster City Council in September 2024.

The scheme enhances the public realm by greening the streetscape along all frontages, in particular by adding a small pocket park on the main approach from Westminster at the corner of Victoria Street and Great Smith Street and at the rear of the site on Abbey Orchard Street facing the Peabody Estate. The addition of setbacks to the façade on the upper stories also create further pockets of green space through the introduction of a large number of terraces that wrap around the building.

These landscape elements add biodiversity whilst providing some much-needed urban greening to the road which Victoria Street is currently lacking.
