Edward Alleyn Building

LONDON 2010

Winner: RIBA London award 2010

In 2004 BBUK were appointed to carry out a Strategic Landscape Masterplan at Alleyn’s School to form part of the planning application for a Performing Arts Building designed by Van Heyningen Haward Architects.

Following this BBUK undertook the detail design and implementation of the landscape surrounding the new building.  Two new quadrangles create an external heart to the school and replace a tarmac car park, a timber deck surrounds the Arts Building taking advantage of level changes to form informal seating with views across the school’s football pitch and cricket square.  Granite benches and a grove of flowering trees create quiet intimate seating around the upper quad, a new dedicated netball court is the centerpiece of the lower quad.
