Ebbsfleet
KENT 2018
An open ideas competition for a new healthy landscape in Ebbsfleet, Kent. The overall aim of BBUK’s proposal is to celebrate the unique Ebbsfleet landscape unifying the development area using three key principles, at three scales (Small, Medium and Large), all based on three of the most accessible sports: running, cycling and swimming. Green routes for the runners, links that are either shared with pedestrians or vehicles for the cyclists, and platforms for the swimmers form the basis for the principles.
The scheme integrates the community from the outset, starting with improved connections and overcoming the site’s multiple physical barriers with timber bridges and ramps, manually powered external lifts and re-opened tunnels. Direct routes are essential for commuting and these are interwoven with sports and leisure trails that will make outdoor activities practical, pleasurable and fully accessible.
