Croydon Infill Sites

CROYDON- COMPLETED 2019

Winner: Housing Design Award (Project) 2018

Working with Mikhail Riches, BBUK designed the landscape surrounding new housing on three infill sites for Croydon Council’s development company Brick By Brick. The ‘small sites’ programme sought to maximising any leftover spaces in the borough making sure these were developed using an innovative model.

Each site had its own set of complex constraints. The first, Heathfield Road lay adjacent to existing woodland and this borrowed landscape inspired new communal gardens benefitting both the existing and the 24 new residents on the estate. Situated on a tight, steeply sloping site on Hermitage Road, at Faithful Court all existing boundary trees were protected, and new private and communal spaces were designed adjacent to the eight new homes. Drummond Road was a constricted urban site for 28 new homes with roof gardens providing new amenity space, and public realm improvements were incorporated around the new the building’s entrances.
