Bridgewater Triangle Bridge

LONDON - On Site

BBUK are currently working with LB Newham on E48, the Bridgewater Triangle Bridge.

The new bridge designed by William Matthews Associates replaces an existing construction over the Waterworks River and will connect to the rest of Stratford and the Bridgewater Triangle development. Working as part of a team led by Expedition Engineers, BBUK have designed the public realm that runs adjacent to the proposed Bridgewater Triangle scheme.

The bridge development also successfully opens up the Waterworks River towpath to connect the existing accessible towpath from QEOP to The Greenway: a cycle and pedestrian route running from Hackney to the west of the site. Using the LDDC’s Inclusive Design Standards and working closely with the Built Environment Access Panel (BEAP) we ensured that the proposals for the newly opened section of towpath are easily accessible; potential hazards eliminated, level changes were sensitively graded, and benches provided for the less able.

A new larger seating area with informal play was created half-way along the towpath that incorporates a central split-level garden terrace populated with mature trees, seating areas and walkways to create a relaxing fully accessible public space.
